What are Number Patterns and How to Sovle it?
What is a number pattern?
Number pattern is a series of numbers that follows a particular pattern or sequence. There is a common connection between all the numbers. For example, the pattern between 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 is that the next number is derived by adding 3 to the previous number or in other words we are skip counting by 3 to get the next number.
What are different types of number patterns?
There are many types of numbers patterns such as:
- Arithmetic patterns
- Geometric patterns
- Harmonic patterns
- Fibonacci patterns
However, for our primary level mathematics we will mostly focus on arithmetic patterns where the number sequence is generated by either subtraction or addition of numbers.
1. What are the missing numbers in the number pattern :
2230 , 2330 , 2430 , ____, ____, 2730
In the pattern above, the hundreds digit changes.
2230, 2330, 2430, ____, ____, 2730
The rule is to add 100 to get the next number.
2230, 2330, 2430, ____, ____, 2730
The rule is to add 100 to get the next number.
2. What are the next three numbers in the number pattern :
3854 , 3864 , 3874 , ____, ____, ____
In the pattern above, the tens digit changes.
3854 , 3864 , 3874 , ____, ____, ____
The rule is to add 10 to get the next number.
Add 10 to 3874 to get the first missing number:
Add 10 to 3884 to get the second missing number:
Add 10 to 3894 to get the third missing number:
3854 , 3864 , 3874 , ____, ____, ____
The rule is to add 10 to get the next number.
Add 10 to 3874 to get the first missing number:
Add 10 to 3884 to get the second missing number:
Add 10 to 3894 to get the third missing number:
